Engineering And Consulting

CRANFOS' engineering team has decades of engineering and consulting experience to help our customers solve their problems related to bag filters and precipitators, both in terms of the process as a whole and the equipment itself. Therefore, we can help them optimize performance for lower operating costs and lower particulate matter emissions. The process begins with understanding our customers' needs and then developing the solution to be applied.

We start with a performance assessment and, to truly understand the problems that exist, we look for their root cause, in order to see which solutions we can recommend to our customers, always seeking the combination of efficiency and cost reduction of bag filters.

From this, CRANFOS experts will provide our clients with understandable, quantitative information and, most importantly, the actions to be taken, always with the necessary tools to make decisions about changes in equipment, maintenance and operations, fuel or other processes, seeking to optimize equipment performance. The results are usually:

  • Cost reduction;
  • Reduction of energy consumption;
  • Reduction of emissions;
  • Improvement in the efficiency and operational quality of the system.

CRANFOS consultancy encompasses a range of options for comprehensive analysis of performance improvement opportunities:

  • Review of equipment design, configuration and process.
  • Equipment evaluation based on mechanical/electrical inspection reports.
  • Fuels, ash and/or particles of different natures (granulometric distribution).
  • Computational fluid analysis (CFD).
  • Performance test monitoring.

Physical modeling of gas flow.

Emergency Stops

CRANFOS experts are available 24/7 to assist with emergency services on site or remotely to support our customers efficiently in situations that need to be dealt with immediately, offering:

  • On-site emergency response with practical solutions to keep equipment/systems operating;
  • Remote consultancy that can rehabilitate the equipment until our specialists can be present at the plant to diagnose the cause of the problem;
  • An innovative approach to diagnosing and solving problems, resulting from over 30 years of experience in operating dust collection equipment.
Inspection Services

During scheduled shutdowns, or as part of a regular preventive maintenance program, CRANFOS' experienced field technical services team is able to collect data and analyze it “in loco”.

We can perform detailed inspections of equipment, analyze its condition and issue reports that result in short and long-term solutions to ensure energy efficiency and emissions compliance.

Once CRANFOS has an understanding of the situation of the client’s equipment, we can deploy the appropriate resources, with the necessary knowledge, tools and skills to solve all problems in the plant. CRANFOS offers:

  • All inspection levels, which may be monthly, quarterly or annual, always aiming to meet environmental requirements and standards;
  • Complete and detailed reports on the status of the equipment;
  • 24-hour availability and fast response time to address customer issues;
  • An innovative approach to diagnosing and solving problems, gained from over 30 years of practical experience in baghouse operations.

Retrofit For Conversion Of Precipitators Into Bag Filters

CRANFOS has the experience, knowledge and the right personnel to provide the most cost-effective and efficient options for customers looking to upgrade their filter bags or even purchase a new installation. Our team is able to offer turnkey services, within the deadline and budget.

The first 48 hours are the most critical in the life cycle of a new set of filter bags. CRANFOS offers real practices and effective solutions to help our customers:

  • Control the initial gas speed to avoid damaging the sleeves;
  • Correct commissioning and start-up to prevent the gas dew point from damaging or even blocking unprotected sleeves;
  • Select the correct material as well as determine the correct quantity to pre-coat the sleeves for each type of installation;
  • Adjust the best cleaning cycle to save energy and extend the life of the filter bags as much as possible.

CRANFOS begins the renovation or turn-key project by understanding the client's production process, equipment and needs, in order to provide a solution that fits the needs of each project.

Next, the geometry of the current equipment is analyzed to check all the configuration possibilities of the Bag Filter within the existing housing, always looking for:

  • The best possible efficiency;
  • Lowest possible cost;
  • Minor adjustments possible to the equipment;
  • Compliance with all equipment performance guarantees.
Resistivity Tests

The electrical charging and discharging of particulates are key elements for the proper functioning of an Electrostatic Precipitator. CRANFOS can predict and assess whether a Precipitator will perform well using particle electrical resistivity measurement techniques.

Low electrical resistivity in the particulate indicates that it is a powder that is easy to collect, but the re-entry of powder into the gas flow can be a problem and compromise the performance of the precipitator. On the other hand, high electrical resistivity in the particulate indicates that the powder does not easily discharge electrons onto the collector plate, causing the “back corona” phenomenon, which can also compromise the performance of the precipitator.

CRANFOS helps predict the extremes mentioned above through the analysis of coal, ash, and electrical resistivity tests of the particulate matter, and then determines the performance of the Electrostatic precipitator. To this end, we enable:

  • Help understand the process that presents high levels of particulate matter emissions, using this information to create solutions;
  • Indicate actions that can improve the precipitator's performance, and estimate how much it can be improved;
  • Determine how resistive the particle is for calculating the sizing of the precipitator;
  • Generate customized reports and recommendations to improve collection efficiency;
  • Generate performance criteria for the precipitator based on the type of fuel being used by the plant.

The resistivity test performed by CRANFOS is based on the gas temperature, fuel type, use of conditioning agents in the gas, humidity, and other parameters.
